How Can I Qualify for Dental Implants?
Ideal candidates are usually those in excellent health with enough bone structure to secure a titanium bolt. If you are considering dental implants to improve the appearance of your smile, please consult one of our dentists to determine your prognosis.
How Do Dental Implants Work?
Dental implants are composed of three pieces of dental mechanics that fit together to form the appearance of natural teeth. These pieces include the implant (a titanium rod), the abutment, and the crown. Each piece will require its own appointment and will be spaced out several months apart to ensure proper healing. If there is not sufficient bone material for your dentist to work with, he or she may consider a bone graft.
How Long Will It Be Before I Can Get My Smile Back?
The entire dental implant process can last anywhere between 7 to 13 months. This, however, is a rough estimation as each patient case is unique. If you require additional procedures to make your dental implantation a success, you should expect your process to take longer. Bone grafts, for example, will slow down your timeline. It can also make a difference whether you are getting dental implants for your upper or lower jaw. Dental implants for the upper jaw are more time-consuming.
Does the Procedure Hurt?
During the procedure, you should experience little to no physical discomfort. However, with any surgery, some level of pain is to be expected during the recovery period. Your family dentist will prescribe you the appropriate pain medication after the procedure so that the disruption to your daily schedule is kept to a minimum.
Will My Diet Be Restricted After Surgery?
During your recovery period, you should refrain from eating foods that could displace your dentist’s hard work or even cause the implant or abutment to fall out. To ensure your best chances for recovery, we recommend that you eat soft foods or drinkable meals such as shakes, yogurt, or oatmeal.
Will People Be Able to Tell That I Have Dental Implants?
Dental implants have a natural look so no one has to know that they aren’t your real teeth. Get ready to smile a lot! Our dentists are dedicated to helping you achieve your best smile.
